New offer excites Gaylord

Nebraska extended an offer to this top junior from the state of Kansas yesterday when he was in Lincoln for an unofficial visit. The latest offer made it six for his offer total, but there was something special about this one.

Nebraska extended an offer on Friday to one of the top junior offensive lineman in the country. Christian Gaylord from Baldwin City (Kans.) Baldwin found out about the offer once he got into Lincoln from the Nebraska staff.

"I found out when I was eating at the training table," Gaylord said. "Coach Barney Cotton asked if I had spoken with Coach John Garrison yet and we hadn't.

"Coach Garrison pulled me and my family aside and said that he was offering me. He said that he really liked my film, that he liked how I played and liked how we worked together going back to summer camp."

The Huskers join an impressive group of offers that Gaylord already held. Still, the offer from the Huskers excited him because of the tradition, academics and the fans at Nebraska.

"That makes six offers for me now. I had offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Iowa State before Nebraska.

"This offer from Nebraska was exciting to me. They have great tradition and great academics as well as a great gameday atmosphere. Their fans are great."

The game on Friday wasn't the first for this top junior. He had been there one other time this season and again this spring for the annual Red-White game.

"I attended the spring game and went to the Wyoming game this season so this was my third time seeing a game in Lincoln.

"Their crowd gives me chills," Gaylord said. "Their fans are just very nice and it's just a great atmosphere. I did the tunnel walk with the other recruits before the Wyoming game."

Gaylord plays multiple sports for Baldwin City and the second one will be starting soon. He says that during the winter sport season he also trains trying to keep his weight and strength up.

"I play basketball and do track. I train while I am playing basketball trying to keep my weight up."

The visit to Nebraska will be the first of two that he will make this week with the second being today. Gaylord is heading east to check out this SEC school later today.

"I am planning on being in Missouri on Saturday and beyond that I haven't given any thoughts to any other visits or plans through the winter or spring."
