Owen excited about opportunity at Nebraska

This is the time of year that Nebraska fans find out the "walk-on class" that will join the commitment class. The latest to say that he will be walking on at Nebraska is Dylan Owen from New Bridgton (Maine) Bridgton Academy.

Dylan Owen from New Bridgton (Maine) Bridgton Academy is going a long way to follow his dream. The 6-foot-5 and 235-pound defensive end picked up an opportunity to walk-on at Nebraska and accepted it about 24 hours later.

"I have been a Nebraska fan since I started watching football," Owen said. "I watched every game on television with my dad so once I got the opportunity (to be a Husker) I took it."

Prior to Bridgton Academy Owen was at Somers (N.Y.) so one might still wonder about why Nebraska? That is easy. It's about family. Two relatives of Owen starred at Nebraska earning All-American honors.

"My uncle, Jerry Minnick, was an All-American at Nebraska and another relative of mine, Rich Glover, was also an All-American and also won the Outland Trophy. Those connections mean the world to me because my family is the most important thing to me."

Owen has film that projects him either as a defensive end, offensive line or possibly tight end. He thinks right now that Nebraska has him pegged for just one position, but he is willing to play where he is needed.

"I think that they like me as a defensive end right now," Owen said. "But, when the time comes I will be ready to play wherever I'm needed.

"My strengths are my height and my long arms. It helps to make contact first off of the line which will help gain leverage quicker."

Owen will be taking a visit to Nebraska this coming weekend.
