Huskers close to landing 4-star OT

Nebraska is looking for help upfront and could be on the verge of landing this four-star OT.

Nick Gates is one of the region's top line prospects with the versatility to play just about anywhere except center. He played tackle all year for Gorman and was one of the standouts at the Semper Fi Bowl practices playing on the right side.

Gates has a nice frame, is physically strong and moves well. He plays with a mean streak, is already very solid technically and is a natural leader with a great work ethic off the field.

On the recruiting front, Gates has taken official visits to Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon, and Texas A&M. He was supposed to take his final trip this weekend to UCLA.

"I canceled the UCLA visit, I talked to Coach Klemm last night and again this morning," Gates said. "UCLA has a lot of offensive lineman in their system, a lot of young guys. They also came in really late, they just offered two weeks ago and I kind of feel like I'm ready to end the process.

"I don't have any more home visits scheduled and I think by the end of the week, I'll be ready to make my decision. Coach Pelini from Nebraska came in for a home visit last night and it went really well. They have recruited me harder than anyone so right now, I'm just going to take the rest of the week to look at my options and then hopefully I'll be ready to decide in a few days."

Coming off a strong home visit with Coach Pelini and a decision just days away, you have to feel good about Nebraska's chances with Gates right now. We should know in a few days where the talented lineman will spend the next four years of his life.
