Nebraska is looking for a big receiver in the class of 2015 and have a new target to focus on. Scottie Washington from Washington (D.C.) St. Johns College HS got an offer from the Huskers earlier today when he was at school.
"I was in the middle of workouts when I got the offer," Washington said. "My coach pulled me out of workouts and put me on the phone with Coach John Papuchis. He said that they were offering and that they liked me as an outside receiver."
Washington has a limited amount of knowledge about the Huskers. He knows that playing in the Big Ten conference might help prepare him to make the jump to the pros based on the competitiveness.
"I was really excited about it, but I really don't know a lot about them. I know that they are in the Big Ten and the competition is great. Going there would really challenge me and make me better. I would consider taking an official visit there this fall."
At 6-foot-5 and 210-pounds Washington clearly has the size that college teams are looking for in their outside receivers. Washington has soft hands, likes to block and says that he runs good routes.
"I am a big-bodied receiver, I can go up for the ball, and I really love blocking. I love to crack back on defenders. I like the go route the best, but I am confident with my route running on all routes."
There have been a number of schools that Washington has been to see this year already. He says that he has plans to visit a bunch more this summer if he has his way.
"I have been to Maryland, Old Dominion, North Carolina, Penn State and Virginia Tech. I have a list of schools that I want to visit this summer. I want to go to Georgia Tech, Temple, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and possibly Penn State."
Washington says that the visits will help him get to the feel that he is looking for when it comes to picking out a school. "Ultimately it comes down to feeling at home and how well I mesh with the coaches and players," Washington said.
