The first offer is in for rising junior offensive lineman Jake Heinrich, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound prospect from Urbandale High who has been seeing his recruitment increase since the end of his sophomore season.
His performance at the NIKE Football Training Camp in Chicago this April put his name further on the radar and today, he was rewarded with an offer from Iowa State.
"It feels really nice," he said. "It feels like I've been working really hard to earn this, and to get the recognition and for Iowa State to think so highly of my playing and as a person means a lot to me."
Heinrich has been to campus several times already, but will look to get back to Ames in the near future.
"I believe I'll be going to camp on the 20th and I'll try to make their junior day, which is the 21st, as well."
Heinrich camped at Nebraska on Sunday and is also hearing from schools like Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado State, Iowa and more. With his recruitment just beginning, he says a commitment is not on his mind yet.
"I hadn't really thought about it much yet. Obviously I'm very excited for this first offer to come in but at this point, I want to work on improving myself as player and person and when I decide along with family, hopefully it will all fall into place."
Based on the offer and his contact with the Cyclones, they look to figure heavily into that decision whenever it comes.
"I actually went to two camps last summer and went there for the UNI game and the Kansas game last year and they showed me all of the football facilities and I really liked it and talked a lot with coach Shane Burnham at camp, he's the recruiter for me, and I talked to Coach Rhoads a lot and have also spoken with new O-Line coach Coach Blaney. Hopefully I'll get up there more and build a relationship with them."
