No. 9 - Harvey: Jake Cotton / Munson: Corey Cooper
No. 8 - Harvey: Corey Cooper / Munson: Tommy Armstrong
OL – Alex Lewis
Senior / 6-foot-6 /290-pounds
Offensive coordinator Tim Beck, head coach Bo Pelini, quarterback Tommy Armstrong, and running back Ameer Abdullah should be freaking out right now. Two starting offensive tackles gone from last year’s squad due to graduation. The only thing is - Alex Lewis is likely better than the talent lost.
The Colorado transfer showed this spring just how big it was for Nebraska to take a chance on the junior. Paired up with possibly the best passing rushing defensive end in college football, Lewis held his own against Randy Gregory this spring and will become a staple for the Huskers’ front five this fall.
In two seasons at Colorado, Lewis recorded 15 starts and earned sophomore honorable all-mention honors in 2012. He will be one of Nebraska’s most experienced offensive linemen. According to teammates, Lewis plays with a mean streak, something Nebraska’s font five lacked last season after Spencer Long went down with a knee injury.
CB – Josh Mitchell
Senior / 5-foot-11/160-pounds
If you see Mitchell on the field you will see a player that is listed at 5-foot-11, but isn’t that tall. He has long arms, but a slight build. What Mitchell lacks in stature he makes up with his scrappy physical style at the cornerback position.
Mitchell is the most experienced player at the cornerback position with all of those previously mentioned players combining for zero starts.
The Gator Bowl against Georgia might have been Mitchell’s best game in a Nebraska uniform. Mitchell logged an interception and a fumble recovery both coming in Georgia’s end of the field. A came like that can really provide a boost going into a senior season.
Mitchell has never been short of confidence though. Mitchell is a talker on the field. Typically a sub 6-foot-0 cornerback at just 160-pounds can’t back it up. Mitchell tends to be able to though which makes Mitchell a fun one to watch. Mitchell is definitely one of the most important players for the Huskers in 2015.
