Jurkovic leads strong running game

One of the overlooked players in the 2015 class for Nebraska is Mirko Jurkovic. The standout lineman was in Texas recently leading a stampede on the football field.

Bradenton (Flor.) IMG Academy just got back home to Florida from Texas. Mirko Jurkovic and his teammates made the long trip to play against one of the top, perennial TAPPS programs in the state of Texas.

"I just got back from Texas, actually," Jurkovic said. "We were in the Dallas area and played against Prestonwood from Plano."

While Prestonwood is one of the best in the state of Texas the IMG Academy is also one of the best in the state of Florida. Despite the long, tiring trip to Texas IMG put up big numbers on the offensive side of the football.

"We played well while we were in Texas. We scored 69 points. I think that we had between 350 and 400 yards rushing in the game."

Many of the Nebraska commitments are setting up their official visits. Jurkovic isn't completely set up yet, but a weekend is popping out. It's not the weekend that many of the other commits will be in attendance for though.

"Nothing is set yet," Jurkovic said. "I know that a lot of players are coming in for Miami. I think that my official visit will most likely be for the Minnesota game."

Just a couple of weeks ago Scout.com's Jamie Newberg had a chance to breakdown Jurkovic. Newberg came away impressed with the versatility of Jurkovic to potentially play both outside and inside. One big reason why was the combination of power and athleticism.

"There are several things I love about Jurkovic," Newberg said. "First, I think he can play both inside and out. I could certainly see him playing right tackle in college and also swing inside to guard.

"Jurkovic moves very well and has terrific feet. He can get off the ball well and instantly position himself to get the proper angle on a defender. He shows flexibility and the ability to bend. Jurkovic can overwhelm you with power and also move to seal the edge.

Before coming to IMG the film on Jurkovic consisted of time at just offensive guard. The move to IMG, and spending the spring there for his junior year, gave Jurkovic a chance to work at tackle and college coaches were impressed. Newberg likes the athleticism and attitude Jurkovic brings to the table.

"In pass pro he can slide side to side to mirror defensive ends and shows enough athletic ability to play on the island. He has very long arms and a good sound base. Also, this kid plays with a little bit of an edge to his game and attitude. I think that's a huge plus when it comes to offensive linemen."
