Andre Smith visiting Nebraska

The Huskers will host a player that they have had their eye on for quite some time. Despite being committed to another school the Huskers have not stopped pursuing and it's paid off in the form of his official visit to Lincoln this weekend.

North Carolina commit Andre Smith has said for months that he plans on taking official visits to other schools. The standout linebacker from Jacksonville (Flor.) Trinity Christian Valley will be in Lincoln this weekend.

"Yes sir I am visiting Nebraska this weekend," Smith said. "I want to visit Nebraska because they stayed after me even after I committed.

"I have heard a lot about the fans, their crowd, football is crazy there and their players are a little bit like Gods. I want to visit to see if it feels like home."

The Nebraska staff have been recruiting Smith very diligently. The linebackers coach was at his school in the spring to see something very specific skills.

"I think that they see me as an outside linebacker. Coach Ross Els has been the coach recruiting me and he came to see me in the spring. He said that he wanted to see me on the field to see my feet to see if I could play in space."

Trinity Christian Valley is off to a .500 start after some problems just getting a second game. A couple of opponents have schedule games and then canceled making it difficult to get an opponent to take their place.

"We are 1-1 so far," Smith said. "We just had that big game against Buford on ESPN. We had a game scheduled, but they canceled. There was another game that we were supposed to play and they canceled too.

"We were in a big pinch to get a game in before the game on ESPN and we called our cross-town rivals who we were supposed to play later in the season. They moved our game up and helped us out."
