Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial outside linebacker Dedrick Young is just getting back into Arizona after a weekend at Nebraska. The talented three-star recruit had a game on Friday night and was in Lincoln early Saturday afternoon.
"I got up to Lincoln on Saturday about 1:00 because we had a game the night before," Young said. "We met up with the other recruits, I got to see Avery Anderson, toured the facilities, ate and then went to watch the game."
Heading out for the game the recruits get to walk out before the team out of the tunnel. Young said that he really liked the fans that were lining the tunnel and that some of those fans knew who he was.
"The tunnel walk was really, really cool. It was great seeing the fans. You feel like you are part of the team. A few of the fans were yelling my name."
Out from the tunnel the recruits emerge onto the field of Memorial Stadium and look up at 90,000+ fans. Young said that he wanted to suit up and play based on how good he was feeling. "Walking out onto the field from the tunnel was crazy. I wanted to go out there and play."
The Nebraska staff told Young that he could play all three of the linebacker spots which is fine with him. He likes what Nebraska does on defense by attacking and mixing things up.
"Nebraska says that they like me at all three linebacker spots. Their defense flies around to the football, they do a lot of blitzing and they mix up the coverages. I think that their defense is a good fit for me."
The visit didn't get a perfect score from Young, but it was close. He says looking back at the weekend that he thinks the fans and the game were the best followed closely by Nebraska committing to bringing technology into the program.
"I would say like a '9', probably," Young said. "I think that I liked the game atmosphere the most. Their crowd was always up on their feet and yelling. I really liked how they used technology and how advanced they are in that area."
This official visit was Young's second visit and he's not sure if there will be anymore. He says that there is a need to think things through a little bit and would like to decided in a couple of months.
"I went to Washington two weeks ago. I don't have any other visits set up and I don't really know if I will make any others to be honest. It's possible, but I have to go home and thing. I would like to make a decision before the end of the season or in December."
Nebraska make quite an impression on Young and he admits that the Huskers are right up there on his list. Young includes three schools when mentioning his list and isn't sure if anyone will be added to it or not.
"I think that Nebraska is right up there for me on my list," Young said. "I would say it's Arizona, Washington and Nebraska. Then we will see if I go anywhere else."
