Nebraska debuts at No. 15

The Huskers have debuted at No. 15 in the initial College Football Playoff top 25.

The College Football Playoff Committee has released their first top 25 poll of the season on Tuesday night and the Nebraska Cornhuskers find themselves at No. 15, in front of fellow Big Ten member Ohio State.

Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn, and Ole Miss, are the top four teams in the initial rankings. The Big Ten’s other potential playoff team, Michigan State, is No. 8.

On the Big Ten teleconference Tuesday, head coach Bo Pelini was asked about the playoff committee’s first vote.

“I’m sure I’ll hear about it, but I got other things on my mind than what that vote is today,” Pelini said on the Big Ten teleconference. “It’s not really something that affects me right now.

“There are certain things in your control, and that’s not one of them,” he said. “You just try to win as many football games as you possibly can, and you control what you control.”

Pelini said he will not spend much time talking with the players about the ranking except to ignore them.

“I just kind of pay attention to what I have to do and what we have to do as a team,” said defensive tackle Kevin Williams on Monday. “You can’t really get too tied up in that and worry about it because then you lose sight of what you have to do yourself.”

Ole Miss and Auburn play each other this weekend, meaning the top four should change again next week.
