Nebraska hosting four visitors

No game, but Nebraska’s new head coach is not slowing down the torrid pace. Who's in town this weekend?

This is the first weekend for Nebraska to host official visitors under the direction of their new head coach Mike Riley. The Huskers are still about two-thirds of the way through this class and the players coming in this weekend could address significant needs in the class.

Jalin Barnett, OG, 6-foot-4/290-pounds, Lawton (Okla.) – Barnett is a BIG TIME prospect. The senior is in’s Top 300 (No. 84 overall) and is rated the No. 6 offensive guard in the nation. The Huskers have lost Mirko Jurkovic from the class and were likely taking four total. Barnett plays tackle in high school, but is best suited to move inside at the next level. There is a tight relationship with Coach Mike Cavanaugh, Barnett and the Lawton staff. Barnett has offers from all over the country including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and others. Barnett was holding an offer from Oregon State prior to Mike Riley coming to Nebraska.

Adrienne Talan, S, 6-foot-1/195-pounds, Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Charles W. Flanagan – Talan was originally committed to Temple back in February, but was really using that as a holder and was open to other offers. Other offers came from schools such as Iowa, Cincinnati and Oregon State. Talan played way, way, WAY out of position at MIKE this past year, but was incredibly impressive playing there shooting gaps and coming on blitzes. Talan is the kind of player you want on your defense because of his nose for the football, can be a cover guy on special teams and he has great athleticism.

matt snyder, TE, 6-foot-5/235-pounds, San Ramon (Calif.) California – Snyder definitely fills a big need in the class for Nebraska potentially…a proven, pass-catching tight end. Yes, that is what Kevin Dillman will play, but more as an X and Nebraska needs to add a Y to the mix. Snyder is a long recruit who has good speed. Their offense rolls quick once they hit their three-point stance which assists in getting a release. I don’t think that will be an issue though and Snyder is also a good looking DE recruit as well. Snyder is committed to Oregon State and likes Riley.

Nick Thomas, MLB, 6-foot-1/230-pounds, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy – Thomas is the No. 44 MIKE in the nation and is originally from Concordia, Kans. before transferring to IMG Academy in Florida. I watched Thomas play against Jacksonville (Flor.) Trinity Christian on television and he was in just about every tackle. He’s a very active linebacker that when I saw he was committed to Wisconsin made the comparison of Chris Borland in my mind. Very physical. Underrated athleticism. This could be a huge get for the class.
