The Cottons and Mitchell reflect in presser

Nebraska interim head coach Barney Cotton, senior offensive lineman Jake Cotton, and senior cornerback Josh Mitchell talked about the Holiday Bowl outcome, their season, and their careers in Lincoln.

San Diego, CA - It was a long month for the Nebraska football team – an extremely long month.

The drama surrounding the Husker program since Nov. 30 is more than most seniors at other programs have to deal with in four years.

Saturday night’s Holiday Bowl was the final chapter of the long month – the final chapter of the Bo Pelini era.

The Huskers didn’t win. In the end USC made more plays. It wasn’t a blowout - far from it. It was the type of loss that most Nebraska fans will be able to wake up to on Sunday morning and be okay with.

“It was fun,” said outgoing senior offensive lineman Jake Cotton. “At times it could have got out of hand and at times it might have seemed like it did, but it was fun tonight, it was a battle. Kind of a microcosm of what the last five years have been like. Hasn't always been pretty, but it's been gritty. We've done it together.

“You know, we've gone through a lot. We never quit. I think the last four weeks showed that we're not a group that quits. A Bo Pelini team doesn't quit, Coach Cotton team doesn't quit.”
