BYU players to be disciplined for opener

BYU might not be at full strength against Nebraska in the season opener.

Nebraska could face a short-handed %%MATCH_2%% team in 2015 opener, after Cougars head coach Bronco Mendenhall was quoted in the Salt Lake Tribune on Tuesday.

Mendenhall said that "10-ish" players will face punishment for their actions against Memphis in the Cougars bowl loss to Memphis back in December. Just seconds after the Tigers secured the overtime victory, a brawl broke out.

"Probably game week [before the opener at Nebraska] is when most of that will happen," Mendenhall told the paper, regarding when announcements would be made regarding the punishment. "We will try to maintain a competitive advantage as long as we can and protect the kids as much as we can. I think everybody knows I thrive on accountability and don't back away from it especially at BYU. So I am comfortable with who we are disciplining and how."

Memphis in January announced 12 players would be suspended for their involvement in the brawl.
