LINCOLN, Neb. - Mark junior Nebraska safety Nate Gerry down as someone who's excited for spring practices and the new defense being implemented.
“My first impression is that I’m really excited for it. It’s a lot simpler than it was," said Gerry. "What Coach (Mark) Banker wants us to emphasize over the spring is to be able to fly around. That’s the thing he wants us all to do, to be able to get to the ball faster and to stay loose. Last year we had a lot of people overthinking. Mentally we weren’t as sharp as we were maybe supposed to be. But Banker is just letting us loose. As a defense, I think we’re really excited."
Gerry says he feels most will be going into Saturday's practice with a competition mindset.
“I think most people see it as all doors are open,"said Gerry. "I see it from playing last year, no spots are guaranteed. That’s how everybody sees it. All the young kids are coming on strong and all the older guys have to just watch their backs. There’s going to be a lot of competition in this spring practice.”
