Marcus Newby on playing the WILL

Nebraska linebacker Marcus Newby is running with the first-team linebackers at the moment. He talks about playing the WILL spot in Mark Banker's defense.

LINCOLN, Neb. - After being buried on the linebacker depth chart the last two seasons, former high school All-American Marcus Newby is running with the Nebraska first-team through two spring practices.

Newby last season was used as a speed rush defensive end from time-to-time, but really never sniffed competitive time at the linebacker spot.

"It allows me to use my speed. Especially in this new defense, where I'm covering the slot, covering the flat," said Newby, when talking about his spot at the WILL. "It allows me to use my speed and be aggressive."

Reporter: You will be covering slot receivers?

Newby: "Yeah."

Reporter: "You got the speed to do that?"

Newby: "Yeah, I say so (smile)."

Newby weighs 225-pounds by the way.
