Jaquan Blakely from Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County is chomping at the bit a little bit. He knows the weather is warming up and spring ball is around the corner. The spring is less for him about hitting and more about his team.
"We don't start spring ball until next month," Blakely said. "I can't wait to get back out there with my team and have fun. I want to help develop the freshman.
"When I was a freshman we had a strong senior class. It's important to realize the need for development and to improve the depth of your team. It's paid off for us in the past."
The 6-foot-3 and 205-pound Blakely says that he has a number of options for spring trips. And while he has these options he hasn't really sat down to set up any visits yet.
"I am going to go to a couple of junior days and spring games. I really don't know which one I am going to go to yet. I will set up some visits soon."
Blakely has a double-digit offer total. He says that he's looking for a school that has the same values that he has. He says that a strong fan base and academics are also things that he's considering.
"I have 10 offers right now. I am looking for that school that has the same morals and standards that we have here in my small town; it's hard work and dedication. I am looking for a great fan base. I am looking at academics as well."
The Huskers see Blakely not only as an outside guy in their defense. They see him as a hybrid guy that can play in a two-point and a three-point as a defensive end.
"Nebraska likes me as an outside linebacker," Blakely said. "They also see me off of the edge like a defensive end too. They have really nice facilities from what I have seen online. They have good academics and tutoring program. It's a school I'd like to see."
