Omaha (Nebr.) South made a deep run into the state basketball playoffs all the way to the championship game. There were tweets during the tournament about dunks and ally-oops by Noah Fant. Fant said that he and his team enjoyed the ride.
"We lost in the championship by five to Creighton Prep," Fant said. "It was a fun experience. I had a great time with my teammates during the whole experience. We made it as far as we could and had fun during it all."
The day of the state title game overlapped with the junior day at Nebraska. The plan was still there to do both that day until Fant was informed that by having to play in the game that day he couldn't visit the campus.
"I didn't get to go to the Nebraska junior day because of the state title game on the same day. There is a NCAA rule that prohibits me from going to the competition and then on a visit to the schools.
"I didn't even know about the rule until that morning. They DMd me over social media to inform me of the rule and that I wouldn't be able to visit that weekend."
The plan to see Nebraska that weekend didn't work, but Fant returned shortly after for a private tour. The private tour allowed for Fant's family to really connect with the school and the staff to see what Nebraska had to offer their son.
"I went down later on a private visit. They showed my family around and we met with Coach Mike Riley. They were really excited about the visit. They liked the campus and the academics. We told the staff that we would make our decision in early May."
So between now and early May there will be additional trips for Fant to come to his decision. The first will be this weekend to a Big Ten school that might be close to offering. After that it's back to Nebraska and then to a third Big Ten school for their spring game and junior day.
"I go to Purdue this weekend," Fant said. "I think that Purdue is close to offering. I am going to Nebraska again for their spring game. I am also going to Iowa for their spring game which is also a junior day visit."
Fant is not doing any spring sports. He's working out getting ready for football. Before football this fall Fant will play AAU basketball this summer.
"I am actually just working out for football right now," Fant said. "During the summer I will do AAU basketball. I am trying to add muscle right now and get my weight to about 225 or 230 pounds. I am working on my explosiveness and my speed."
