LINCOLN, Neb. - For the 12th time this spring, Nebraska practiced with one week until the annual Red-White spring game.
In front of a large crowd of area high school coaches in town for the 2014 Nebraska Coaches Clinic, the Huskers practiced for just over two hours in Memorial Stadium.
After a day where quarterback play was average at best (that’s probably being nice), head coach Mike Riley was asked about his signal-callers and if there is any separation or a pecking order.
“There is not anything new, Tommy is still taking the first team snaps. We are going to let this thing play out, there has been some good stuff going on with the quarterbacks, but still there is a lot to learn,” Riley said. “Just like every position, we need a lot more consistency.”
With two more practices until the spring game, the installation will continue. On Saturday, Nebraska implemented some of their goal-line offense.
“The football that we can do for the next two (practices) are really important, we just finally put in some goal line stuff, so I know we want to look as sharp and crisp as we can for that game and play well and give guys opportunities to play,” Riley said. “We also want to get some things established, that we want to have in so it is not totally brand new when we start doing it in fall camp.”
Nebraska was without quite a few players on Saturday, but most are expected back before the conclusion of spring. One who won’t be making it back will be tight end Cethan Carter. A recent X-RAY revealed a crack in his foot. Carter will have surgery in the near future and be out likely six weeks.
