Zack Darlington talks position battle

Nebraska redshirt freshman Zack Darlington talks about the battle for the starting quarterback spot this spring under new head coach Mike Riley.

LINCOLN, Neb. - After 14 practices, Nebraska redshirt freshman quarterback Zack Darlington finds himself in a position battle under new head coach Mike Riley.

"I'm going to try to be better than the guy next to me," said Darlington. "I'm going after the same thing they are going after. We are all buds. We are all joking around and having a good time, but everyone knows there is only one spot."

Darlington's rise this spring has come as a surprise to many Husker fans and the media.

A former state champion quarterback in Florida, Darlington's high school career was cut short after multiple concussions. While cleared last season, the previous Nebraska staff was extra careful with the freshman.

With those days behind him, Darlington talked with the Nebraska media for the first time on Wednesday.
