Riley says Byerson Cockrell has surgery

Nebraska defensive back Byerson Cockrell, a possible starter next season, has underwent shoulder surgery.

According to Nebraska head coach Mike Riley, senior defensive back Byerson Cockrell has underwent shoulder surgery after injuring it in the spring game. Riley announced the news during his radio show on the Husker Sports Network.

"The good news is that he will be back and ready to play for the season," Riley said. "So he has plenty of time to rehab that shoulder. He's a good football player, too. I've been impressed with him."

Cockrell spent the spring practicing with the first-team unit, alongside Nate Gerry at safety. He was also the Huskers top NICKEL and could battle for that spot in the fall.
