Mike Riley announces two players off Husker roster

Former four-star quarterback Johnny Stanton has decided to transfer according to head coach Mike Riley.

Former Elite 11 finals quarterback Johnny Stanton, a redshirt sophomore, has decided to transfer from Nebraska. Mike Riley announced the news in a press release on Thursday.

Stanton, who many thought could compete for the starting job when Riley was hired, looked to be fifth on the depth chart coming out of the spring. He was the last quarterback to enter the spring game and had learned last week he would not be on 105-man roster this fall according to Big Red Report sources.

In addition, Riley announced redshirt freshman Glenn Irons will no longer be on the team as well.

With the two departures, Nebraska is down to 83 scholarship players on the official school roster.
