Nebraska junior defensive tackle Maliek Collins was named to the Big Ten Conference's preseason annual watch list on Thursday. He joined fellow Husker De'Mornay Pierson-El on the list.
Arguably one of the top Big Ten tackles heading into 2015, Collins is coming off a season where he recorded 14 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors.
Collins was also named to the Outland, Bednarik, and Bronko Nagurski watch list earlier this month.
Collins and junior Vincent Valentine are looked at to be one of the better pair of defensive tackles in the conference this season.
“I don’t want to get above and beyond what they are. Every guy here has to improve fundamentally. Every guy here has to get bette,” said Nebraska defensive line coach Hank Hughes in the spring. “Those two guys have some tools that give them a chance. If they work hard, every single day to improve their skills, they have a chance to be real good players.
Collins is one of only 11 players on the Big Ten Watch List.
