Nebraska head coach Mike Riley on Mark Banker decision

Nebraska head coach Mike Riley was asked about the decision to bring defensive coordinator Mark Banker to Lincoln.

CHICAGO, Ill - Head coach Mike Riley is in his honeymoon period at Nebraska. It's hard to do wrong. He's undefeated after all.

But, it doesn't mean Nebraska fans don't ponder decisions made, including Riley's choice of Mark Banker as the Huskers' defensive coordinator.

Fans can quickly do a Google search and see Banker's defenses at Oregon State overall have struggled the last few years in Corvallis. The last two years, Banker's crew gave up a little over 31 points per game.

Perception isn't always reality.

What stats don't tell you is the injuries he dealt with or the recruiting challenges.

"This guy is a very good technician. He is a very good communicator. He is a very good teacher. The players are confident in him and the staff is confident in him," said Riley.

Riley was asked about Banker and the decision to bring him to Lincoln at Big Ten Media Days.
