Nebraska receivers gets hit with injury bug

New Nebraska head coach Mike Riley is having to alter his practice plans with multiple receivers out this early in fall camp.

LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska head coach Mike Riley has had to alter his practice plans early in fall camp, after the injury bug has hit the wide receiver spot in Lincoln.

On Tuesday, a practice session the media was allowed to attend, receivers Jordan WesterkampDe'Mornay Pierson-El, Sam Burtch and Taariq Allen were all out of practice.

"I really wanted two fields going, lots of reps for everybody," Riley told reporters, including the Lincoln Journal Star. "But as you saw tonight, we used one field basically all night long. It really limits the reps for the third- and fourth-string guys. For me, it's a little early to do that, but we do not have enough receivers running right now to have two groups."

Of course, injuries have given opportunities to others. On Tuesday night, a pair of former Louisiana preps, Alonzo Moore and true freshman Stanley Morgan shined.

"I think all the guys are taking advantage of the reps, and I think Stanley is really taking advantage of it," Riley said. "He's been very impressive for a young player."

It's not the first time the media has asked a member of the staff about Morgan.

Westerkamp and Pierson-El are likely day-to-day and could be available on Thursday when the media is invited to wtach practice again.
