Lincoln – Nebraska junior I-back Terrell Newby was honored by the Big Ten Conference Monday morning, as he shared Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors. It marks the first time that Newby has been honored by the Big Ten.
Newby, a junior I-back from Los Angeles, tied or established career highs in carries (28), rushing yards (198) and rushing touchdowns (two) on the ground in Nebraska’s 48-9 victory over South Alabama on Saturday. In all, Newby totaled 236 all-purpose yards, as he also hauled in two passes for 38 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
Newby accounted for all three first half touchdowns, scoring on runs of 13 and 8 yards, while also catching an 8-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Armstrong Jr., as Nebraska took a 24-0 lead. He topped his previous career high of 107 rushing yards in the first half alone, totaling 118 yards in the opening 30 minutes.
Newby shared the honor with Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard.
The Huskers return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Miami for a nationally televised showdown with the Hurricanes. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (central) and will be a split national broadcast on either ABC or ESPN2.
