Nebraska kicker Drew Brown bounces back after early misses against BYU

Nebraska kicker Drew Brown has bounced back nicely after missing two fields to start the season against BYU.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Last time we checked in with Nebraska kicker Drew Brown, he had just missed two field goals against BYU - six points that could have been the difference in the game.

At the time, we were impressed with Brown. He didn’t run from the moment after a strong fall camp. He owned it and said he would try to be better next time out.

Since then, Brown is 3-for-3, including a 49-yarder against Miami on Saturday.

“Last week against South Alabama was huge for me,” said Brown on Monday. “Not just my physical ability, but my mental. Knocking those kicks thru, knowing I could do it, it was good to get the first game out of my system.”

Brown said he had to focus on honing in at practice with his consistency.

“Most of it was just the way I was making contact with the ball,” said Brown. “Turning my foot over a little more and not swinging across my body as much.”

Brown has some solid support in his corner. Not only does he have a dedicated special teams coach in Bruce Read, but brother Kris knows a thing or two about kicking as well.

“He was just saying keep my head in it and the team is going to need you when the season comes down to a close…he said trust my abilities and trust the process. Trust the mental focus during your game.”

Brown talks more about the Miami game, his preparation this season, and his conversations with his brother in the video above.
