Lincoln – Head Coach Tim Miles and senior wing Shavon Shields will represent the Nebraska basketball program at Big Ten Media Day Thursday morning in Chicago. The event includes interviews with national, regional media who cover the Big Ten, tapings with national outlets including BTN, ESPN and CBS, a photo shoot as well
Fans can follow all of the action on BTN Thursday morning, as the network will carry live coverage of each of the 14 men’s head coaches’ remarks. Coach Miles is scheduled to appear at 8:48 a.m. (central) on BTN and on BTN2Go.
Shields makes his second appearance at Big Ten Media Day, as he represented the team prior to the 2013-14 season. The 6-foot-7 senior from Olathe, Kan., is one of the Big Ten’s top returning scorers, averaging 15.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as a junior. Shields was first or second on the team in scoring, rebounding and assists (2.2) in 2014-15. Shields, who has made 82 straight starts dating back to his freshman year, ranks 25th on NU’s career scoring list with 1,127 points, and is the first Husker since 2007-08 to return as a 1,000-point scorer.
In the classroom, Shields is also one of the nation’s top students, as he is a returning first-team Academic All-American who carries a 3.77 GPA in biological sciences and is on track to graduate in May. He was also a finalist for the Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award in 2014.
Fans will have their first chance to see the Huskers in person on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Details will be announced on the event in the coming day. The Huskers’ exhibition game is Monday, Nov. 9, against Northern State, while NU will tip off the 2015-16 season on Saturday, Nov. 14, against Mississippi Valley State.
