Lakewood St. Edward will look for its second straight Ohio Division-I state title this weekend when the play Huber Heights Wayne. Three-star defensive back Tony Butler is the top college prospect on the Eagle squad. '
Although Butler is far more concerned with his team this week than he is with his recruitment, he has been talking with a new team, Nebraska, and has agreed to take an official visit. Butler had previously stated that he was down to two schools, Arizona State and West Virginia.
"Nebraska is kind of new to me, but we have been talking off and on since last summer," Butler admitted. "I might go visit there on an official visit next weekend, but I'm not real sure just yet. Nebraska is coming at me hard right now, and Arizona State is also."
"I am going to take an official to Arizona State in January, but I don't think I will be taking an official to West Virginia now," he stated. "West Virginia is still in my top-two, but I really haven't talked to them in a while. I've been to West Virginia before anyway, and after the season I'm going to try to reconnect with them."
Why the interest in Nebraska at this late juncture for Butler?
"They were up there for me last summer, but then they kind of stopped recruiting me, but I found out why they stopped," he explained. "They had the wrong phone number for me, and thought I wasn't interested because I never returned their calls."
"Last week, a coach hit me up on Twitter to see if I might have any interest in Nebraska, and I told him I did," Butler said. "I know (wide receiver) Desmond Fitzpatrick had a great visit there recently, and he and I are friends."
"We've talked about playing college football together, and he told me I should go check out Nebraska," he continued. "That's one of his top schools, so I have to go see how I like it. I don't want to say Nebraska is in my top group right now, but I am definitely interested and will know more after my visit."
Scout will continue to track Butler throughout his recruitment, and will report any updates to his status.
