Tracy Claeys and the Minnesota Golden Gophers managed to squeeze into Terrell Lucas' official visit plans after invading South Florida for a successful in-home visit last week. It was certainly a change of scenery for the 6-foot-2.5, 228-pound senior out of Miramar (Fla.) High, but it's somewhere he could see himself calling home for a good 4-5 years.
"Well, Minnesota was great," Lucas said. "I really enjoyed the whole environment of the school and city feel to it. The football facilities were top-notch as well. I can see myself as a Gopher.
"They said that they really want me, but I have to take my other visits."
We're in the month of December, and it's currently 75 degrees without a cloud in the sky where I'm living in Tampa Bay. This is shorts and t-shirt weather for a kid like Lucas that's surrounded by sunshine 12 months of the year down in South Florida.
Lucas admits that he'd have to get accustomed to the brisk conditions that come along with living in Minnesota, but it's an option on the table that he's definitely considering.
"It was amazing," Lucas said when asked about his experience seeing snow in the Twin Cities. "It's definitely something I'm going to have to get used to."
There were some that thought Nebraska was out of the picture after Lucas opted to cancel his official visit and travel up to Minnesota instead, but the defensive end says that's certainly not the case.
"I'm going to set my Nebraska visit for the week after the Tennessee visit," Lucas said. "I might do Miami since they said they want to come into the picture."
Duke has been the front-runner in Lucas' recruitment for a couple of months now, but he's waiting to take his official visit up to Durham before commenting on clear-cut leaders.
