Countless college coaching staffs are pursuing sophomore Zamir White. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound running back, who says he has no favorites at this time, is nearing 20 scholarship offers.
Alabama pulled the trigger yesterday.
“It’s a great honor,” White said. “I watched them growing up and always wanted an offer from them. They have great football tradition and history of producing great running backs.
“(Outside linebackers) coach (Tosh) Lupoi offered me. He also talked to me about the school and all the running backs who have played there. The coaching staff actually wants me to come visit next week, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get down there. But I’m definitely visiting soon.”
Nebraska just offered this afternoon.
“Honestly, I don’t know much about the program,” he said. “But I do know they have great tradition and history.
“My coach told me about the offer and I haven’t talked to any of their coaches yet, but I’m looking forward to speaking with them and learning more about the program. I could also possibly visit.”
His most recent visit was to North Carolina earlier this week for a junior day that included the basketball game against Duke.
“It was crazy and the game was amazing and the atmosphere was great,” White said. “I also had a lot of fun with the coaches. We took pictures and we were able to stand up and act like we were talking to the media. It was a great visit.
“I also had a chance to talk to all the coaches, except coach (Larry) Fedora because he wasn’t there. I spent the most time with (running backs) coach (Larry) Porter. He told me he wanted me to come visit more and that he wanted me to feel at home.”
What’s next for White?
“A lot of schools want me to visit, but I’m not sure where I’ll go next,” he said. “I would like to go to Alabama soon, though. I also want to visit as many other schools as I can.”
White finished his sophomore season with 260 carries for 2,159 yards and 43 touchdowns.
