Holding 16 scholarship offers with more expected to come his way, Matt Sichterman knows he’s one of the lucky ones when it comes to the recruiting process.
Monday, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive lineman added an offer from the Nebraska Cornhuskers to his growing list.
“Nebraska offered,” said Sichterman. “I’m talking with Coach (Mike) Cavanaugh. I’ve never been out there but plan on making a trip out there for a spring practice or for their spring game. I know they have a pretty good engineering program. I also know they have the most academic all-americans and some sweet facilities as I’ve been researching up on that. Other than that, I need to take a visit and check things out.”
The Huskers join a list that continues to grow and Sichterman spoke with Scout about each of his latest offers.
West Virginia Mountaineers - I really don’t know a whole lot about West Virginia. It was one of those offers where they spoke with my head coach and he told me about the offer. It’s exciting to get an offer from them and I’ve been in contact with Coach (Ron) Crook recently and plan to take a visit.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights - It was my second Big Ten offer so that was pretty big to me. Coach (AJ) Blazek talked about how he liked my toughness and athleticism up front. He said he wants two basketball players for his tackles and I’m looking to plan a visit up there as well.
Oregon State Beavers - One of their coaches, Brian Wozniak, is from Loveland High School, a rival high school here. So he was the first to get in contact with me. I know they are pretty far from home, but it has been real easy to connect with him.
Marshall Thundering Herd - I’m talking with Coach (Bill) Legg. I didn’t hear a lot from them prior to them offering me. But I’ve been in contact with them and looking to visit them.
Illinois Fighting Illini - I’m talking with Coach (Nathan) Scheelhaase as he came in and watched one of my basketball practices. He then had Coach (A.J.) Richker watch my film. They are a school I’m real interested in as they are the No. 6 engineering school. So that is one at the top of my list. So I’m planning to go there during spring ball for a visit.
Colorado State Rams - I don’t have a connection with them yet. But I thought it was pretty cool to get the offer. They have a beautiful campus and I think they have a pretty good engineering program too. So I think it would be cool to visit. But right now I’m not sure when.
As for visits Sichterman does have planned, it sounds like he’s ready for a busy spring.
“I’m going to Pittsburgh this weekend and then next weekend I’ll be at Indiana,” he said. “Then I’m looking to visit West Virginia or Nebraska. Right now, I’m thinking West Virginia because it is closer.”
