LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh loves the attitude of sophomore Nick Gates. So much, he wishes he could replicate it across the offensive line.
"He's a competitor, he's tough, he finishes plays," said Cavanaugh. "He wants to be good. He practices hard and plays hard. He finishes."
Gates, who started all 13 games last year despite being a redshirt freshman, has grown into a leader for the guys in the trenches, despite being still a younger guy.
"He leads by example and comes to practices to work hard every day," said Cavanaugh. "The guys respect him."
In the video above, Cavanaugh talks about his past relationship with Nick Gates while the Las Vegas product was in high school. Plus, Cavanaugh updates the media guard Jerald Foster, who is pushing for a starting spot.
