Husker senior Tai Webster helped New Zealand improve to 2-0 at the Atlas Challenge, as New Zealand posted a 73-68 win over Japan on Wednesday in China.
Webster reached double figures for the second straight game, going 4-of-6 from the field, including 1-of-2 from long range, en route to an 11-point performance.
Webster, who had 16 points in Tuesday’s 15-point win over Belarus in the tournament opener, was one of five New Zealand players to reach double figures on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 guard led New Zealand with three steals and added seven rebounds and three assists in nearly 33 minutes against Japan.
In two games this week, Webster is averaging 13.5 points per game on 71 percent shooting along with 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists 3.5 steals per game.
The preliminary round concludes Thursday, as New Zealand takes on host China. The Atlas Tournament is the first of several events to help New Zealand prepare for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament next month in Manila.
