A 6-0 start hasn’t come without its challenges for No. 8 Nebraska (6-0, 3-0). The Huskers enter Purdue week a beat up football team.
On Monday, Nebraska head coach Mike Riley indicated both offensive tackles – Nick Gates and David Knevel – are questionable for Saturday with ankle injuries. The team has Monday off and Tuesday will play a large factor in whether they play this week.
“Our two tackles then we’ve got to probably make a move with somebody who is a very versatile guy like Sam Hahn who could possibly be a tackle,” said Riley. I hate to go too far into the week without an offensive lineman practicing. There’s just so much stuff, the different pressures, the pickups, all that. It’s hard so we need to know as soon as possible but I don’t know what that means.”
Quarterback Tommy Armstrong, who was noticeably limping on Saturday against Indiana, after spending the Huskers ‘ bye week on break, is probable.
“Well Tommy is like a lot of guys at this stage in the year,” said Riley. “He’s sore and got some ice on but we fully expect him to be ready to go and play.”
Here are other players on the injury chart.
RB - Devine Ozigbo – probable
TE – Cethan Carter – out
WR – Jordan Westerkamp – questionable
“He (Westerkamp) felt a lot better yesterday,” said Riley. “He’s been doing some running in that pool. I hope he can play but we’ll find out a lot more about it tomorrow.”
