Connecticut fired Diaco on December 26 after posing a 11-26 record over the last three seasons.

Before his tenure in the AAC, Diaco, 43,  was awarded the Broyles Award in 2012 - annually given to the nation's top assistant coach. As the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, his 2012 Irish defense went to the BCS National Championship game, ranking in the top 10 in 12 different defensive categories.

Diaco is no stranger to the Big Ten. The former linebackers coach played at Iowa in the early 90s. He has also had coaching stops at Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Virginia Tech and Cincinnati.
