Nebraska heads into the 2017 season with four scholarship running backs in the stable. With Bellevue (Nebraska) West's Jaylin Bradley already committed, the pursuit of one more goes on for Nebraska.
The Huskers don't need a running back, but Chula Vista (California) Mater Dei Catholic runner C.J. Verdell would be a nice cherry on top. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound back is currently committed to Oregon, but visited Lincoln two weeks ago. On Tuesday night, multiple Nebraska coaches hit his home.
"While Verdell doesn't have ideal height, he makes up for it with speed and toughness as a runner," said Scout.com national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins. "Great in the open field and an elusive runner, Verdell reminds of several Oregon backs before him. Ge should be able to carry a big load in college."
Verdell will be tripping to UCLA this weekend, meaning Nebraska's trip on Tuesday night was the last chance they will get to talk to the running back in person.
