Husker 2018 Targets: T.J. Pledger

In a new series, we take a look and sometimes introduce Nebraska prospects in the 2018 class.

After failing to land two running backs in the 2017 class, Nebraska will likely target two in 2018.

Near the top of their list is IMG Academy running back T.J. Pledger.

Here is a look.

LOWDOWN: A former West Hills (Cali.) Chaminade College Prep standout, Pledger is headed to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior year.

Chaminade is the home of former Nebraska running back Terrell Newby and Pledger is well aware of the former four-star high school prep.

“He’s (Terrell) like a big bro to me. He obviously was at my school before I got there," said Pledger.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound runner attended Nebraska's satellite camp last summer in Los Angeles.

“The camp was great. I got a chance to work personally with Coach (Reggie) Davis. I had a good time. A lot of my friends were there. It was a good turnout,” said Pledger at the time. “He said that I’m very explosive and that he likes it. He said he thinks I could be a home run threat guy. He wants me to work on running in and out of my routes and continue with the fundamentals. Those are what separate guys at the next level.”

Pledger has already committed to play in the Army All-American game in 2018.

2018 STATS: Pledger rushed for 1,881 yards on 231 carries in 2016, finding the end zone 30 times. Nine of those scores came in the playoffs.

OFFERS: 30+ with schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, Florida and Notre Dame heavily involved.

QUOTE“I’m most definitely interested in Nebraska - a big interest,” said Pledger. “They have a lot of momentum with guys in California. Nebraska wasn’t really a big school for guys out here, but with all those guys, Tristan (Gebbia) and Keyshawn (Johnson Jr.), guys want to see what the big hoopla is. A lot of those guys wouldn’t have come today if they didn’t know about the Calibraska movement."

WHERE THE HUSKERS STANDIn a recent interview with, Pledger mentioned seven schools (Oklahoma, Washington, Arizona State, UCLA, USC, Michigan, Notre Dame)  when talking about his recruitment, but did not mention Nebraska. He did admit he was completely open and had a large pool he was considering from. Nebraska has made major headway out West, meaning his move to Florida could overall hurt the Huskers' chances. But, Pledger isn't heading to IMG alone. He enrolls with very close friend Bookie Radley-Hiles, who has seen Nebraska multiple times up close and personal and has the Huskers near the top of his recruitment. Radley-Hiles also is the cousin to Nebraska 2016 signee Tyjon Lindsey. Even if Radley-Hiles ends up elsewhere, Nebraska is expected to be heavily involved in his recruitment until Signing Day 2018. The likeliness Nebraska rubs off on Pledger from Radley-Hiles is pretty high.
