With 30+ prospects coming to Lincoln for the Red-White game with a Nebraska offer, the Husker coaching staff will have their hands full on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
It is natural for skill positions players to get more attention in the recruiting process than the big boys in the trenches.
On Saturday, the Huskers will once again host 2018 four-star defensive back Bookie Radley-Hiles. The IMG Academy (FL) standout has been labeled by many the most “well-known” recruit in the Big Ten era for Nebraska. He’s had an offer since late February, 2016. Almost two years before he could even sign.
To put it simply, landing Radley-Hiles would be the Huskers’ biggest get in a decade – maybe even longer.
But what if I told you there is a recruit coming on Saturday, almost as big as big Radley-Hiles. Maybe even more important THIS WEEKEND.
http://www.scout.com/player/200457-michael-thompson?s=204 Nebraska would love to get a strong foothold in St. Louis (Missouri) and need talent in the trenches. St. Louis Parkway North lineman Michael Thompson is currently the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle. We write lineman because Nebraska is recruiting him as an offensive line according to Scout.com sources as of Tuesday. In the end, it really doesn’t matter – get Thompson on campus and committed – figure it out later. He’s a four-star prospect on either side of the ball. He could be ranked higher down the road.
Radley-Hiles has already visited Lincoln – multiple times. Nebraska is sitting very well with the junior. Will the Red-White game weekend really change the eventual outcome for the former Calabasas (California) prep? Building on a relationship is never a bad thing.
However, Thompson is making his first trip to Nebraska. In fact, Thompson is ranked three spots ahead of Radley-Hiles in the Scout.com national rankings.
Land Radley-Hiles and there will likely be a domino effect.
Land Thompson and the Huskers see their credibility in St. Louis climb.
Nebraska needs to continue to impress Radly-Hiles and keep him interested in a program far away from home.
More importantly – give Thompson another reason to visit down the road.
That is how Harvey sees it.
