So who's in contention?
Probably the schools he remembers offering and those are, "Texas Tech."
And while those teams will continue battling, he's already selected three schools officially visit and those happen to be, "Texas Tech, Nebraska and LSU."
Another school to keep an eye on is Mississippi State. Herring said he's only a two-hour drive from the Bulldog campus and though he may not take an official visit there, he will definitely take an unofficial. And, with two of his cousins (Demetric Wright and Ricky Wright) playing for Jackie Sherrill, they might have a leg up on the competition.
"If I do go to State, it won't be because I have cousins playing there, it would be because that's the place I like the most."
Herring said he'll have a better idea who leads and where he wants to go after taking all five of his official visits.
Whoever earns this kid's verbal will probably do a few cartwheels. They'll be landing a former Parade All American LB (originally signed with Ole Miss before transferring to NW Mississippi CC) who now goes about 6-2, 285-pounds and can rip off a 4.7 (40 time).
"He's athletic enough that I had him playing MIKE (middle linebacker) when he first got here," N.W. Mississippi defensive coordinator Jeff Byrd said. "He can play DE/DT...he's that quick and that big and strong."
