Mark Winston of
Parkview Magnet HS, Little Rock, AR (6-7, 235, 4.7 ) is still fielding 2 or 3
football related recruiting phone calls per day. He is also a basketball
standout who "can dunk the ball pretty easily" from his power forward position.
He has been all-state in basketball and named to the state's all-tournament team
in the past.
So, is Arkansas his favorite? "Right now, I wouldn't say they're my favorite but they are showing the most interest as far as recruiting. They've been on me since very early in the recruiting process so right now I'll put them ahead of everyone else since they've been on me for so long."
Just last week Mark was lucky enough to receive two new offers – from Florida and Ole Miss. Mark says that in the case of Ole Miss, all he had received up until the time of his scholarship offer was contact by mail.
Mark played both ways on the football field this year, his season terminating when Parkview failed to make the playoffs. From the tight end position Mark had, "I don't know for sure, but around 26 or 27 catches, don't know how many yards, and two touchdowns." Mark started out as an end on defense, then was switched to linebacker, usually middle but sometimes outside, "…so I could make plays from sideline to sideline." Mark tallied about five sacks and returned an interception for a touchdown. He enjoys playing defensive end more than linebacker.
Mark is keeping things open without a clear favorite at the moment and hopes to make a final decision as to where he will attend college by January 1, 2004. His best friend, Marcus Monk of East Poinsett County, Arkansas, has already committed to the Razorbacks to play WR and basketball. Mark Winston wants to study either business or finance in college.
The #3 safety in the nation as ranked by Insiders,
Kyle Jackson of Neptune Beach, Florida ( 6-1, 176, 4.61 ) has basically narrowed
his choices down to five schools.
He will be visiting Alabama, Florida and Tennessee but also likes Georgia Tech and Florida State. Kyle might or might not schedule anymore officials. I asked who he was considering and Kyle replied, "The three I'm visiting, Georgia Tech and Florida State." Who has the best chance? "Florida and Florida State." Kyle has already been to see Florida and FSU more than once each unofficially.
