"I don't know. I am just watching and waiting right now to see what they are going to do."
Whether they are a commit or a recruit of the University of Nebraska, that's almost to a tee every comment I have heard from everyone I have talked to. They aren't sure, they are keeping their options open and yes, they are looking around.
The uncertainty behind so much uncertainty has commits walking lightly and recruits looking with a slightly more skeptical eye?
Will it be Bo Pelini?
That is certainly the question Delbert Ferguson is asking, as if it is, his commitment probably would soon be following.
The Huskers could end up with 3 or possibly even more of the talented Tallahassee teens if Pelini gets the job.
We don't know though, so while everyone is so interested in what's going on with recruiting, irony has it that there is so little going on, there's almost nothing to talk about.
Call the recruits, get the same message. Call the commits, get the same message. The redundancy of it all is as frustrating as it is pointless, but here we stand (or sit), just hoping for the time when we can pick up that phone, talk to a recruit and get something other than "we are waiting".
It's understandable and inevitable in a situation like this. Odd as it may sound though, when this is a time where you would hope the players have patience, the coaches have patience and for the love of God, those recruits have patience, it's the fans that need to take their own advice.
I have found myself the last week literally being able to write a form letter as to the updates and quite honestly, does anyone want to hear the same thing over and over again?
My patience is frayed just like everyone else's, but I actually have to call these kid to figure out what they are going to do. Problem is, none of them know either, so it's the fans that must in the end try not to become what they begat.
In the next week or so, fingers will be crossed and I will even break a few wishbones leftover from turkey dinners in hopes that an announcement will come. With all the possible scenarios and rumors, right now, if you can say that you have heard of less than 10 coaches out there that actually have the job right now, you are doing good.
I lost count last week.
If that decision comes though, breathe a sigh of relief no matter who it is, because something will finally then happen with recruiting.
Yes, there is the grand chance that if it isn't Bo Pelini or maybe, John Gruden or Bill Parcells, recruiting could find itself in a bit of a slump, but it will rebound, how fast, we just don't know right now.
We don't know anything. All we know is that we don't know, only knowing that if we knew, we might think we actually know more than we really do.
Not to me either.
At least then, it won't be, "I don't know. I am just watching and waiting right now to see what they are going to do." . It might not be all that great initially, but honestly, I'll take anything right now, but I will agree that getting the same answer is better than getting no answer at all.
