Huskers Stun the Sooners

In a match-up of the top two teams in the BCS standings, the #2 Nebraska Cornhuskers used a stout defense and big plays on offense to overcome the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners 20-10 to take command of the Big 12 title chase.

The Huskers spotted OU a 7-0 second quarter lead before coming back to take a 10-7 advantage. A goal line stand forced the Sooners to settle for a late field goal that left the game tied 10-10 at the half.

The second half belonged to the NU defense. The Blackshirts turned an interception into a field goal and a 13-10 Big Red lead, before the Huskers used some razzle-dazzle to pull away. Freshman Mike Stuntz, a future NU QB, took a pitch on a reverse and hit Quarterback Eric Crouch with a 63-yard scoring toss that iced the win. The win was the Huskers 20th straight at home, and snapped Oklahoma's 20-game winning streak.

Dahrann Diedrick rushed for 86 yards against the vaunted OU defense, and is closing in on the 1,000 yard mark with 957 yards on the season. Crouch was 10-18 for 102 yards passing.

A re-match in the Big 12 title game in Dallas is very possible, provided neither team slip up in their last four games.

Next up for the Huskers, a trip to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Kansas Jayhawks. Game time next week, is 6pm CST. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
