Gunnell made his mark on the gridiron last year by hauling in 36 receptions for 650 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also handled some return duties too for his team. He happened to take four of those back for a touchdown too. Those types of numbers had Gunnell raking in the post-season honors.
This past year Rich was first team All-Conference, All-Area and third team All-State. He was voted the Player of the Year in his conference as well.
It's obvious that offers are just a matter of time for Gunnell who is attracting attention from all over the nation. He is doing his best to get out and see some schools now for unofficials.
If you as Rich what his biggest strength is playing the wide receiver position, you may be surprised. "My intelligence. It's knowing what defense their in and what patterns to run and where to break my route off at."
In high school, Gunnell's team runs a four-wide offense. He doesn't necessarily seeing himself needing to go into that same style of offense in college. In fact he may prefer a pro-style or west coast offense.
One team that might have been there, but has fallen off with the communication with Gunnell is Nebraska.
"I haven't heard much from them in a while. I look at them mainly as a running team. I like their program and if they were to change their offense like they are talking about that could change my mind." Bryan Munson can be contacted at NURules@comcast.net.
