Monroe holding Nebraska offer!

One of the top players in the Garden State is now holding a Nebraska offer. Eugene Monroe is over 20 offers and Nebraska is the latest to offer. Can the Cornhuskers lead him to the Mid-West?

Nebraska has tried before to pull a player out of Plainfield (N.J.) High School. Just last season Nebraska was after Dan Davis. This year Nebraska has come back to Plainfield to offer who may be the best player in the state.

Eugene Monroe is a great combination of size and speed. As an offensive tackle he is 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds and runs a 5.3 second 40-yard dash. His combination of size and athleticism have schools from all over the nation trying to lure him to their school.

"Nebraska was the latest to offer. They offered my yesterday," Monroe said. "I currently have about 20 offers."

Schools of note in the list of offers are USC, Miami, Tennessee, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Iowa amongst others. He has a current top five, but he maintains that the top five can change.

"This is not a definite list, but I would say Maryland, Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Stanford. That's probably it I like all of the schools and don't have set favorites."

Although Nebraska isn't in his current list of favorites the offer from Nebraska perked his interest in the Cornhuskers. His interest can be traced back as far as last year though.

"I wasn't really looking at them too much before they offered. They recruited Dan Davis last year and that's really why I started looking at them. I really don't know too much about them or the changes they have gone through recently."

"I think that they are a good school with good football tradition. I am interested in them and I am going to look into them more."

Monroe isn't planning any camps yet, but may be interested in attending the MSL Combine at Rutgers University on June 5-6.

Eugene carries a 3.9 GPA in his core classes and took the SAT although he hasn't received his test scores yet.
