"Last year we really started out as a power up the middle type of team," Polite said. "By the middle of the year I was running outside trying to turn the corner."
With his combination of 4.5 speed and good strength Ryan was able to satisfy the needs that his team had of him to lead them to a 8-3 record last year.
"I still want to work on my speed and my strength this year. I need to get bigger and stronger. I am not the size that I need to be at. As a team we don't want to lose like we did in the playoffs last year."
Given Polite's impressive rushing statistics he also hauled in 394 receiving yards and five more touchdowns. Those stats and his efforts helped him bring in All-Carrollton, first team All-Area and first team All-State (3A) honors last year. Despite playing in only Texas' third largest class schools are taking notice.
"I am getting the most mail from Iowa. I am also receiving mail from LSU, Baylor, TCU, SMU, Oklahoma and SMU. I don't have any offers yet, though. I'd say that my list of favorites is Iowa, LSU, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M."
Ryan sees himself trying to emulate Barry Sanders on the field. "I don't have his foot speed," Ryan admits, "but I'm working on it."
Polite is looking at academics, for his major, the coaching staff and the school in general when it comes to choosing which school he will decided to attend. Right now Ryan is either planning on majoring in Biology or Pre-Med.
This summer Ryan plans on attending a seven on seven camp at LSU. He will also attend some other camps, but he is unsure as to which ones exactly at this time.
