Huskers not done with 2004 class

A nation-wide, JUCO bulletin was sent out to wide receivers from Nebraska. Wide receivers who were wrapping up classes, coming back from injury or who didn't decide in February were the targets.

Nebraska received a commitment from Gabe Hatchett only to have him decommit from Nebraska and commit to Toledo because of classes. Chabot coach Danny Calcagno and John Lockett responded immediately to Nebraska.

Ken Silman of the Daily Review, a Hayward, Calif. newspaper, is reporting that John Lockett is planning on signing with Bill Callahan and Nebraska later this week.

Last Wednesday, Coach Calcagno got a phone call from Nebraska coach Dennis Wagner, stating that Nebraska was interested in offering Lockett. Coach Calcagno left a message for Lockett and on Thursday they sent the final paperwork to Nebraska.

Now there is a waiting game for Nebraska and Lockett to see if everything is a 'go'.

The road has been anything but straight for Lockett. Out of Hayward High School he left for San Jose State to walk-on. Lockett left San Jose State to attend Chabot.

In two seasons at Chabot, Lockett caught 72 passes for 1,106 yards and 12 touchdowns. Lockett is 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds and still runs a 4.5 second timed 40-yard dash.
