THE SLANT: It's not easy widdling down almost fifty offers, but
that's what one of the top linebackers in the country has to do. If only
for his coach's sanity rather than his own. "My coach said that if I don't
have a narrowed list by the time schools can call, it's going to be flat
out crazy." Jerome said. Trying to avoid that, Jerome is looking at having
ten teams at the maximum once that time comes to pass. Some of the teams
that are currently "in" as being on that list are Miami, Rutgers, Florida
and Michigan State. And teams that Jerome stated were "on the bubble" as
far as making a top ten are amongst others, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, Penn State, Syracuse and Virginia. The bottom line for that final list is going
to simply come from the best total from the following equation: depth
chart friendly+chance to win a national title+ relationship with coaches
over recruiting season+overall tradition. If you are heavy or on the good
side in all of those, you have a solid shot at Hayes. As for Nebraska,
Hayes said that the success of Jammal Lord there along with another New
Jersey native in Joe Dailey doesn't hurt their chances as well. "It's nice
to know that there are some Jersey boys there having some success." he
said. Jerome said that he should have a fairly good idea of even narrower
list in apprx. a month and hopefully he'll have a final five before his
season really gets going.
