The football season was interrupted repeatedly for Floridians by hurricane season. Matt Hardrick and his family are OK, but they will find themselves going deep into the calendar year to get all of their games made up. A small price to pay for safety.
"We're 3-1. We're going to have hurricane or make-up games later. We had three get cancelled," Hardrick said. "Yeah, we got hit a few times."
When he's had a chance to play he's made the most of it. "I've been doing pretty good. Right now they are moving me around on the line and I am playing guard. I am playing a little bit of defense too. I would rather play tackle. I have been playing it since I started it."
Hardrick only has one official set up so far and it isn't until January. He has three other schools in mind for an official as well, but the last and final spot for Matthew is coming down to a two team battle with one team leading.
"I have an official set up to Florida State on January 9th. I am going to visit Miami, Florida State, LSU and Oklahoma. The last one will be Nebraska or Ole Miss. One of those two."
Coach Randy Jordan from Nebraska has been recruiting Hardrick. There is an obvious geography hurdle when it comes to possibly picking Ole Miss or Nebraska for the final visit. There is also something else that Matthew noted that has him thinking about one school over the other.
"Right now I would have to say that I am leaning a little more towards Mississippi. The plan that they have of starting me off right and early is a real good plan that they have been talking to me about."
Hardrick has only taking one unofficial to LSU for camp. "I went to a South Florida game. I went to Florida State versus Miami. I was supposed to go to LSU and Florida, but I had homecoming."
Expect the other visits to follow Florida State in January and nothing before Christmas. The month of January plans to be a busy one for Hardrick. We will keep you posted if Nebraska can secure that final official!
