In the "Show Me State" there is a very good prospect that is trying to sew up a little bit of his recruiting. It didn't help that he missed an unofficial visit, but he is planning on making it up.
Justin Thornton is quietly having a very solid year for St. Joseph (Mo.) Central High School. He has brought in some very solid offers to date and more may be on the way.
"Alright, it's going real good individually. We're 3-6 right now. I don't exactly know my stats. I know that I have 19 touchdowns. I think that 13 are receiving touchdowns. Two are interception returns, two rushing, one from a kickoff return and one from a punt return," Thornton said.
Thornton is seeing action all over the field. He is starting at receiver on offense, cornerback on defense and mans the returning duties on punts and kickoffs. "Last year most schools were recruiting me as a corner. This year schools are starting to look at me as a receiver. I don't really have a preference."
Thornton has been to Missouri a couple of times for unofficial visits to see a game. He has also been to Kansas to see some games also on unofficial visits. To date, Thornton hasn't taken any official visits yet.
His official visits kick off in December with the weekend of 12/3 set to visit Kansas and the following weekend (12/10) to go to Missouri. Both of the schools have offered Thornton.
One school that hasn't offered, but is showing more attention as of late, is Nebraska. Thornton was set to unofficially visit Lincoln on 10/30, but was unable to make the trip.
"I was supposed to go, but I never got everything worked out with Coach Downing. I had planned on going up there. I'm definitely going to try and get back up there. I'm going to give them a call. I'm going to try and get up for the Nebraska/Colorado game."
To Thornton he wasn't sure if talks with Nebraska about a potential offer had come up. "They definitely talk like they are interested. I'm not sure what position they are recruiting me for. They've talked about receiver, defense and returning kicks. We've talked about it all."
