Fast-forward to the last couple of weeks, Matt just recently getting home from his first official visit to Oregon and now looking to take the rest.
Just to clue you in on this process, though, a school doesn't want a recruit to come on an official when students aren't around. No life on campus, they can't see the place as this bustling hub of activity and student-life at its best.
That means the next two weeks are out.
And, Matt has an official scheduled for Stanford the first weekend following the first full week of January. The next week after that, it's off to see the ‘Canes in Miami. After that, it's probably off to see the Sooners down in Norman.
You see the problem, right?
That leaves that last week up before signing day as the only time Pipho could visit, but the problem there is, the coaches are off making sure everyone in is in, those still out are coming in and just dotting the ‘I's and crossing all the "T's.
Time. There's simply no time and for Pipho, he's actually a little saddened.
"I really wanted to visit Nebraska." He said. "They wanted me to visit the weekend I was going to Miami, but I had that one already set, so there's no way I can do that."
"And, there just isn't time for anything else. I don't like it, because I am definitely interested in them, but I just don't see how this is going to work out."
Pipho was looking forward to the visit for a couple of reasons. The first being of course, this was a school he was interested in, but the second, is that is the time he was expecting the written offer. It was one of those deals where the coaching staff in trying to gauge the interest of the recruit wants to see them visit before they hand that scholarship offer over.
It is unfortunately an opportunity that Matt doesn't see he'll get a chance to have. "I really would have liked to visit there, because it's a good program, a lot of tradition and possibly an opportunity to play early." Matt said. "But, that's the way it goes, I guess."
So, it will indeed be down to Oregon, Stanford, Miami or possibly even Oklahoma for the 6'6" – 270 lbs. linemen.
It's not to say that Nebraska would have beaten these other worthy teams out even if they did get a visit. Because of timing, however, neither will have a chance to figure that out.
